DRIVE AND MOTIVATION

Here are a few tips to help with drive and motivation:

Plan, Plan, Plan!

Take an hour each day and write out a daily routine. Structure it how you like, but designate specific hours of the day to do specific tasks and stick with it!

Find Out Your "Why"

Figure out what makes you get up in the morning ready to attack the day! Keep it in mind and remind yourself of that for when adversity comes in life.

Celebrate Yourself

Pat yourself on the back for small victories in life! Acknowledge what you have done and give yourself the credit you deserve! You have done a lot better than you think!

Start Small

It doesn't all happen overnight. Set small achievable goals and then gradually create larger goals as you achieve your smaller goals. One step is better than no steps!

Create a Motivating Playlist

Whether it’s a generic playlist you download on Spotify or find on YouTube or a curated list of songs you like, stick to it or make a playlist with your favorite songs. Add a few new songs every once in a while to keep your attention.

What is motivation in athletics?

Motivation for athletes is the mental process that ignites, sustains, or directs an athletes attitude and behavior. This is critical to all aspects of an athlete's life, as it impacts your training style, your approach to competition, sports performance, and how you respond to adversity. There are two types of motivation in sports which are intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation are the behaviors that are driven by internal or personally meaningful rewards like actualizing your potential. Extrinsic motivation are the behaviors that are driven by external factors like championships or material rewards. It is important to use both types of motivation, as they can push you to the next level!

Why is it important?

As athletes, one of the most important aspects of being an athlete is having the motivation to inspire yourself when times get hard. When you lose motivation as an athlete, this can not only be detrimental but this can lead to permanent outcomes if you don't address it! It is Vital to maintain motivation to be able to become the best version of yourself athletically because adversity will strike, and when it does, you need to be able to reflect on something to push you to the next level!
