About Kelly Furr
I work with athletes who want to improve their performance by reducing stressors in their lives. Common stressors include relationship issues with family, coaches or teammates; working through anxiety and perfectionism; adjusting to student-athlete life or the culture of your university; navigating the recruitment/commitment/transfer process; dealing with an injury; body image issues or disordered eating; identity issues related to sexuality or gender; and more.
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in VA, NC, FL AZ, and UT where I own my own teletherapy practice which specializes in working with athletes. I help athletes reduce their stress so that they can up their game and enjoy life more.
At different stages of my life, I've been a Division I track and field athlete, high school track coach, club gymnastics coach, and I am now a parent to my own youth athletes. My experience as a top athlete, coach, parent, and therapist gives me a strong ability to help you understand how your personal issues affect your athletic career, and how problems with your sport can affect your overall mental well-being.
I am also pursuing a PhD in Counseling Education and Supervision at Virginia Commonwealth University where my research interests include helping athletes improve access to culturally competent mental health care.
